Today is Action for Children’s 144th anniversary

144 years today, Action for Children (website, Facebook, Twitter) timidly opened its eyes as a newborn baby.

In 144 years of work, Action for Children has grown into an invaluable organisation.  It has helped countless children through difficult times and provided hope where none was there.

In this video, Alastair Stewart, ITV news broadcaster and Action for Children Ambassador, reminds us that child neglect is the most widespread form of child abuse in the UK today.  Up to 1.5 million children in the UK experience child neglect.

In 2013, Action for Children runs more than 650 services across the UK and works directly with over 250,000 children and carers.

Abuse is generally associated with harmful activity perpetrated against a defenceless sentient being.  It is therefore crucial to remember that child neglect is just as harmful and just as abusive.

A typical story of cases Action for Children works with is shown in the video below.

Here’s to the next 144 years of hard work and success!
